MSD is currently retained by the franchise at whopping Rs. 15 crores
One of the most followed cricket player and successful captain to ever done Indian Cricket Team’s jersey, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has an altogether different fan base in the southern Indian state of India Tamil Nadu.
And that is why when the reports in media broke that M S Dhoni has reportedly told the Chennai Super Kings management about his plans to go into the auction pool for the 2021 season, it gave the CSK fans a little heart attack. This is also because the fans are not the one-sided lovers but get as much love in return from the senior wicket batsman. And the love story has existed right from season 1 of the Indian Premier League, and they have seen all the good and bad days together.
The association has seen the CSK lift the IPL trophy as many as three times in its history despite being banned for two seasons. The fans also welcomed Dhoni and CSK with open arms after the franchise returned to the tournament after serving the two years’ ban.
Speculations regarding M S Dhoni was already doing rounds on social media when the news of Dhoni opting to go into the auction pool broke and sent his fans into dizzy.
CSK clears the air: MSD not going anywhere:
However the CSK franchise was quick to clear the air around the reports and in a clarification like a stand, pointed that Dhoni was neither retiring immediately nor he was leaving CSK after 2020 season. The franchise confirmed that Dhoni will continue to be part of CSK during the 2021 season and will continue to don the yellow jersey in 2021 season.
The CSK also confirmed that Dhoni informed the management about his plans to go into auction pool but only to return to the CSK. “Ahead of 2021 IPL there will a big auction. Dhoni has informed that he will play the 2021 season. So there is no point of speculating his retirement now at least from T20 anytime soon” a source close to the development in CSK said.
His plans of going into the auction pool, however, is in the best interest of CSK. Dhoni reportedly wants to retain him for 2021 season at a lower price tag using the Right to Match (RTM) option during the auction.
“He told us he could go into the auction pool, which will give us the option to retain him using the RTM card for a lower price. He is our captain, and he is ready to sacrifice money for CSK” the source added.
CSK who currently get Rs. 15 crore was told by the CSK management that there was no such need and that he would stay with the franchise at the same price.
“We know what MS means to us; we cannot let him go back to the auction. So the CSK rejected the offered posed by Dhoni” the source said.
Dhoni begins preparations, starts practicing with Jharkhand team:
Dhoni, on the other hand, started practicing with the Jharkhand state team which also sent a clear message to his fans and media while also clearing the air on reports of immediate retirement from the game.
Reports now indicate Dhoni is completely focusing on IPL 2020 and wants to use it as a platform to make his international comeback ahead of the World T20 in Australia.
“Reports adding that Indian team management is in the dark about Dhoni’s plan on his comeback might not completely be true. He will want to have a good IPL outing, and that will ensure that he will well be part of the T20 team that will play World T20 in Australia” the source told. Asked when Dhoni will consider retirement, the source added “For other senior players like Shane Watson, Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir and Dwayne Bravo 2020 might be the last season. But Dhoni will play 2021 season and will overlook the rebuilding process of the team. He will play with the new crop of players to provide stability. The questions of retirement will only come up after 2021 IPL. Even if he decides to hang up his boots, he will always be the mentor of CSK”.
